Rock salt mining in the city of Maceió, capital of Alagoas, from the discovery of the deposits to the installation of the Braskem mining company, was marked by controversies, disrespect for legislation and political interests that did not take into account the opinion of the population or the damage to marine fauna and flora. Mineral extraction, since 1976, has impacted the soil, causing the process of subsidence in the Pinheiro, Mutange, Bebedouro, Bom Parto and Farol neighborhoods, making houses uninhabitable and forcing residents to empty the neighborhoods. This article presents: objective: to present the case of Maceió in light of the concept of environmental injustice, since the negative externality of mining did not affect all residents of Maceió's neighborhoods equally; problem: to determine whether there is coordination between the various actors involved in the event in the construction of mechanisms to ensure environmental justice for all those affected; conclusion: although the event is still ongoing, there is coordination among those involved to seek justice for the most vulnerable affected; theoretical framework: O que é justiça ambiental (2009), by Henri Acselrad, Cecília Campello do Amaral Mello and Gustavo das Neves Bezerra; methodology: hypothetical-intuitive based on documentary analysis of specific bibliographic texts consulted as primary sources.
