This work aims to analyze the theoretical plan of Rousseau's ideas contained in the Social Contract, in parallel to the cases of Corsica and Poland present in other of his writings, in which the philosopher was faced with questions of a practical nature. Starting from the idea that the principles of political right presented in the Contract are a reference for examining the legitimacy of States, we analyze whether the concrete cases in question are more or less distant from such a parameter. In this sense, the situations in Corsica and Poland highlight the relationship between theory and practice in the way Rousseau is willing to think about what is best for these nations of his time, advising them on what should be changed or maintained, based on the adaptation of its principles to the specific reality of these people. By making indications for them, Rousseau's objective is to establish the means to preserve the sovereignty of both. The situation in Corsica, as we discussed, appears to be more favorable for the implementation of a good government, while Poland needs more substantial changes to contain the vices of a nation that has long been politically established.
