LIVING WILL AND THE FUNDAMENTAL OPTION OF HUMAN BEINGS IN THE FACE OF TECHNOLOGY

The article, titled Living Will and the Fundamental Option of the Human Being in the Face of Technologies, offers a reflection on freedom, power, value, trust and the fundamental option that a person can make during their existence. It also examines the technologies employed in medicine. This study aims to foster awareness regarding human beings in the context of their interpersonal relationships. Specifically, it seeks to clarify the positive aspects of advance treatment directives, particularly their concrete implications for individuals in states of unconsciousness. Additionally, it addresses the risks that may undermine human relationships when a declaration made in abstraction and hypothetically overrides the current knowledge of a given time or imposes itself deterministically over other freedoms. Such abstraction may result in the obsolescence of a prior decision at the moment of its implementation. Furthermore, the potential for such declarations to become law carries implications that may affect society both presently and in the future. Living Wills could serve as a pathway to euthanasia, thereby inverting values, where death, once considered an evil, becomes a desired good for the human person.
