Abstract

We understand that in its wide territorial extension, Brazil presents a cultural, social and economic heterogeneity that is reflected in the Portuguese language, thus, with the intention of showing the contribution of sociolinguistics and dialectology to the knowledge of this linguistic diversity, this work comes raise/provoke reflections relevant to the approach of Brazilian geolinguistics in Portuguese language textbooks for secondary education. Based on studies by Cardoso (2010), Bagno (2007), Travaglia (2009), Ilari & Basso (2009) on a pedagogy proposal of linguistic variation and in the light of the PCN, it is intended to analyze these manuals and observe which types of variation are contemplated and how the concept of cultural norm/standard is worked. In the meantime, it is intended to (re)think existing concepts, in the academic field, about language, variation and teaching, so that discussions are raised that stimulate the reflection of our students within the variational linguistic field.
