ZONING PROPOSAL TO THE PICÃOZINHO REEFS, JOÃO PESSOA, PB

Abstract

Reef environments are being strongly used by touristic activities without respect by the live system nor rules are being followed, determined by a management plan or an environmental management. So, an environmental planning is needed in order to these activities be less damages to the environment and its use optimized. The aim of this work was to propose an environmental zoning to Picãozinho reef, João Pessoa, PB. The study area is a relevant tourist attraction to the city, generating income and employment for various segments. The adopted methodology took in account the different traditional uses and the marine biodiversity, registered in early studies, which provide data to the proposal of an environmental zoning in the area, privileging the coral reef conservation without losses to touristic activity. To the development of this zoning, maps were constructed through satellite images. From there and using as reference the coral biodiversity, ecological and economic zones were proposed in the reef environment.
