Abstract

The article analysis the documentary  “Torre das Donzelas”  (2018), in order to examine the relation between cinema, history, and the memory of women political prisoners who opposed the Brazilian military regime in the 1970s. The documentary gathers testimonies of women who were persecuted, imprisoned, and confined at the women’s wing of the Tiradentes Prison,  known as 'Torre das Donzelas'. In which concerns the relation between Cinema and History, the film is comprehended as 'source, subject, technology and means of representation' for historical analysis. The film comprehended as a source, and the analysis of cinematographic discourses and practices allows Historians and Social Scientists to observe how films can use and appropriations of discourses. It needs to take into account that the official memory has its origins in a field of conflicts, disputes, clashes and disputes of narratives from differents groups and/or communities. The memory is the result of power relations. These can be observed in the construction of an 'official memory' seeking to silence and overlap the so-called 'underground memories'. Film analysis allow us to reflect on the construction of another memory. A memory aimed on the serious violations of human rights experienced by a group of women during the period of the brazilian military regime. The imprisonment and tortures experienced by these women, certainly resulted in permanent traumas, while, also,creates  various forms of resistance to not lose the humanity itself and the importance of the struggle.

Post-Doctorate in Education by the CAPES / PNPD Program (2014-2015). PhD in History - FAFICH / UFMG (2008). Master in Social History of Culture from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (2003). Graduated in History from the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters of Belo Horizonte. Professor / Researcher at the University of the State of Minas Gerais / Divinópolis Unit. Member and researcher at the Affirmative Actions Program at UFMG and at the Research Centers: on Ethnic-Racial Relations and Affirmative Actions - NERA, NEPHELA and GEIQ based at the UFMG Faculty of Education. Member of the Center for Studies and Research in Education and Language? NEPEL / FAE / CBH / UEMG and the Center for Studies and Research on Technologies and Subjectivation Processes at UNESP / SP. Develops work and research in the area of ​​Organization, Digitization of Archival Collections on the History of the Negro in Minas Gerais and citizenship - with projects developed in the collections of the Curia de Diamantina and Casa Borba Gato in Sabará and Cape Verde - Histórias Cruzadas; Childhood History, Women's History, Education and Oral History, Heritage Education, Public Policies and Social Rights, History of Africa and the Diaspora, Political Cultures with an emphasis on Memory, Dictatorship and Social Movements. Has experience in Education with an emphasis on Education and Ethnic-Racial Relations, History of Education and Popular Education; in the area of ​​History, with an emphasis on History of Mines, History of Africa and Ethnic-Racial Relations, Textbooks on History, Oral and Contemporary History, Methodology and Historical Research, Digitization of Collections. She has developed research with the following themes: childhood, women, family, gender, trajectories, slavery, freedom and freedom processes, Rights and Citizenship. In the area of ​​Education, he works with Initial and Continuing Education for Basic Education Teachers in the area of ​​African History and Ethnic-Racial Relations, Research Methodology, History of Education, Public Policies and Rights. She was Executive Coordinator of the Project "Legacies of the African Diaspora in Brazil and the United States: persistent inequalities", under the CAPES / FIPSE Program (2011-2015), in consortium with the Universities of Winston-Salem State University, University North Carolina at Charlotte - North Carolina, USA and UFMG, UFPE and PUC-RIo. Currently participates in the CAPES International Cooperation Program, within the scope of the CAPES / AULP International Pro-Mobility Program (2013-2017) with projects and research being developed in Cape Verde and Angola and the CAPES / Abdias Nascimento International Mobility Program (2016-2018) in consortium with Universities: from the State of Minas Gerais, Coimbra, Lisbon, Cape Verde ,, from Laval - Quebec and Centro de Investigación y de Estudios Avanzados del Instituto Politécnico Nacional? Mexico. Participated in the Right to Memory and Truth Project at the Truth Commission in Minas Gerais.

Haydenée Gomes Soares Manso, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais

Graduated in Pedagogy from the Faculdade de Educação da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. He received a Scientific Initiation scholarship from CNPq in the project "The experience of cinema in teaching: other plots and screens by teachers" (Edital Universal 14/2014) Faculty of Education / UFMG coordinated by Prof. Inês Assunção de Castro Teixeira. He is a member of the Mutum Research and Extension Group: Education, Teaching and Cinema (PRODOC-FaE-UFMG).
