This article aims to reflect on the learning about the experience that took place in the quilombola community of Paratibe, in the south of the municipality of João Pessoa / Paraíba, by the extension workers of Projeto Aquarela, from the Health Sciences Center of the Universidade Federal da Paraíba. I take as a starting point for reflection my learning experience as a member of the popular extension in health, from 2013 to 2015. I believe that the practice of popular extension gains transformative potential in the social and citizen formation of health professionals, with the exercise of horizontality and the establishment of bonds of respect, trust and otherness. The quilombo territory provided very expensive human, social and political learning to our citizen formation, which expanded our ability to see the community and ourselves. And today it is possible to verify the way in which we have been transformed, as well as the community, in its change of perception about the University's performance, and its practices; we experience the process of crossing the walls. The vivid learning of the performance of the academy in its role of contributing in the construction of a new society and in the constitution of transforming people.
