The present work aims to analyze the current situation of Brazilian education, perceiving the historical influences that contributed to the dual and excluding format that is presented in our educational structure. We understand that it is through a more systematic and procedural understanding of the formation of educational structure in the country that we will be able to overcome problems, develop proposals and think about a more just and quality education. Learning from the history of education can allow us to walk on new paths. In that sense, we seek to trace a historical overview of education in Brazil and its main official proposals for organization, highlighting the main interests of groups in power in each historical time. We started from a bibliographic review using authors who have been researching the history of education in Brazil and compiling the main information about the official teaching proposals. In that sense, authors such as Saviani (2018); Silva (2017); Boutin (2015); Germano (2008), among others.
