Semear mundos possíveis além do capitalismo: mulheres e novos agenciamentos na ficção científica

Abstract

We are experiencing a “polycrisis” (Fernandes, 2025) of the Earth system: climate change, neo-fascism, imperialist colonialism, hunger, wars, resource depletion, genocides, the fallacy of sustainable development, femicide, a new witch hunt, and their countless direct and indirect consequences. These instabilities share a common cause: the exploitation and predatory violence of the capitalist system, which demands the degradation of nature and human life and reinforces divisions based on gender, race, and age. Thinking about alternatives to these crises leads us to the proposition of Ecofeminism, which reaffirms the importance of women’s struggle and the defense of nature as essential to overcoming this system, recognizing them as part of the same oppressive exploitation of capitalism. The aim of this article is to understand how the literary ecofeminism of science fiction written by women helps us to envision other forms of agency beyond capitalism, based on an analysis of the works The Word For World is Forest (1972) by Ursula K. Le Guin, and The Year of the Flood (2009) by Margaret Atwood. Our proposal is related to an approach that considers these works, written by women and featuring female characters connected to the earth as their main focus, as a means to build another form of continuity beyond capitalism, as a minor literature. Thus, we propose a bibliographic study that articulates the analysis of this minor literature based on Deleuze’s rhizomatic conceptual proposal.
