Abstract

This article analyzes the two versions of the literary work Chapeuzinho Amarelo, by Chico Buarque, featuring illustrations by Berlendis and Ziraldo, respectively. This investigation considers both verbal and visual texts, drawing its theoretical and methodological framework from the works of Góes (2005), Dondis (2003), Coelho (1991), Lajolo and Zilberman (2006), and Santaella (2000). The theoretical assumptions encompass literary theory and criticism, semiotic aspects, and elements of the syntax of visual language. Based on the examination of the works, it is observed that the visual language reflects the distinct contexts and periods of publication of the versions of Chapeuzinho Amarelo. Thus, the theme of fear (inherent to the plot) assumes different configurations and operations across different eras. The results indicate that the rereading of a classic of children's literature with a renewed focus on fear, combined with the transformative illustrations by Ziraldo and Berlendis, suggests a shift in cultural expectations and in narrative techniques. By breaking with traditions and offering a critical and playful perspective on the themes addressed, Chapeuzinho Amarelo reflects the demands of a contemporary children's audience, more closely connected to the realities of its time.
