Misinformation poses a challenge to communication and health, making it necessary to have tools that aid in the evaluation of digital content. Therefore, this work aimed to translate and validate the Verifying Online Information Scale for the Brazilian context. A survey was conducted in the virtual environment, organized into two studies. The first one was intended for an exploratory analysis and the second for confirmatory purposes. The first study (Exploratory) included 217 respondents, the majority of whom were from Paraíba (81%), female (69%), self-declared white (47%), with a mean age of 24 years, mean family income of R$ 4,342.49, university students (89%), from the areas of Nursing (49%) and Pharmacy (34%). With the analysis, the 22-item instrument (α = 0.92) was organized into two factors: Indirect Verification (α = 0.89) and Direct Verification (α = 0.87). This confirmatory study involved 207 university students from Paraíba who studied Psychology, the majority of whom were female (81%), single (67%), self-declared white (61%), with an average age of 28 years, and an average family income of R$ 6,037.36. It was possible to confirm the structure of 22 items (VOI-22) and proposed a reduced version with seven items (VOI-07). The study provided two validated instruments for use in research in the Brazilian context, tested with samples from the health areas, in full or reduced versions. The latter is practical and fast for research in online information evaluation.
