Abstract

The article addresses the challenges of social justice in the Brazilian Amazon, starting from the premise that the region is not homogeneous but composed of multiple territorialities, collective subjects, and sociocultural realities. Based on a plural approach, grounded in the theoretical contributions of Rawls (1997), Sen (2010; 2011), and Fraser (2006; 2009), the text articulates the concepts of redistribution, recognition, and representation to analyze structural inequalities and territorial conflicts in the region. It uses the scope of the Legal Amazon and indicators such as the Municipal Human Development Index (MHDI) and the Social Progress Index (SPI) to highlight the persistence of social exclusion and the precariousness of public policies in Amazonian municipalities. It argues that the invisibilization of the knowledge, ways of life, and demands of traditional peoples - such as Indigenous, Quilombola, riverine, and extractivist communities - contributes to the reproduction of social injustices. By criticizing the application of exogenous and homogenizing development models, it advocates for the construction of public policies rooted in the territories, with social participation, valorization of local knowledge, and commitment to the pluralities of the Amazon. It concludes that social justice in the Brazilian Amazon requires a new paradigm of planning and state action, based on active listening, recognition of differences, and democratization of access to rights.
