Abstract

There are several classical and contemporary conceptions and ways of approaching education. Within this theoretical framework, we find Karl Mannheim's sociological point of view. Based on this perspective, the purpose of this text is to communicate the systematization of some notes and reflections resulting from the study of education by this researcher. The examination of the author's contributions regarding education, as a phenomenon that integrates the social and historical structure of society, shows that, from a sociological perspective, problematizing it presupposes adopting some strategies. In the case of this study, I followed the following: first, I sought to understand and indicate certain parameters that guide and support the sociological thinking of the researcher in question. Next, I considered the idea that education is, for the author, a constituted and constitutive part of society in general. And, finally, I pointed out that, for him, education is effective in the concrete interaction between the individual and the group to which he belongs. In the light of Karl Mannheim, therefore, I found that education is, par excellence, an everyday, immediate experience, always lived in community. It would be precisely in this place that both the individual can personally and subjectively recognize, and sociology can methodically recognize, the effective presence of formative educational processes, as a relevant social structure, defining the individual and collective existence of people and society.
