Abstract

Post-colonialism is a disruptive movement aimed at understanding the effects of the establishment of colonialism and, at the same time, proposing a new analysis of the consequences experienced by the colonized peoples after the domination of the indigenous population and the formalization of territorial occupation. Adopting this perspective, this article conducts a study of the book A Terra dos Mil Povos: História Indígena do Brasil Contada por um Índio by Jecupé (2020). The analysis was made with the aim of exposing new viewpoints on the official narrative of the "discovery of Brazil," which had previously been told from a Eurocentric perspective, and simultaneously demonstrating how a work with ethnolinguistic translation contributes to the deconstruction of European hegemonic thought. To this end, this study is based on the proposals of post-colonial writers such as Spivak (2010), Mbembe (2018), Munduruku (2012), Krenak (2020), and Jecupé (2020), and includes observations made by other scholars like Quijano (2005), Lander (2005), Mignolo (2019; 2020), and Bassnett (2002). The methodology adopted is bibliographic research followed by an analysis of the aforementioned book, considering the translations of indigenous-origin lexemes made by the author himself under an intercultural bias and an anti-colonial perspective. This text then discusses the re-signification of certain historical facts brought forth by Jecupé (2020), in which the purpose is to give voice to the indigenous peoples who have been silenced.
