This paper reflects on the disappearance of field evidence about intimidation, risks ou violence in health promotion practices to fit a socially desirable discourse in health planning and administration. International agencies depict a global world where subversions are out. Few studies dare mention the censured local reality and the life-threatening situations to conduct the actions planned. An autoethnography gives an account of the experiences in Amazonian region as a resident and nurse for the Leprosy and AIDS control programs in the 90s. The results portray the clash between the consensual discourse of the international agencies, the program health administration and observations from the ones who do the job.
