FORMATION AND DEVELOPMENT COLLECTIONS IN ESPECIALIZED LIBRARIES

Abstract

This work presents collection development for especialized libraries. This serves as base for planning for directions and rational and balanced collection development. The work also aims to propose quality criteria for selection, acquisition and evaluation process of information. The speed in which information is renewed imposes difficulites for libraries to keep up with the new publications is dealt with. The elaboration of a collection development policy is suggested as a conclusion. Collection development is seen here as a parameter to help the librarian in decision making. This is done related to the selection and acquisition process of the material that will be incorporated to the collection for quality maintnance.
