EDITORIAL - POPULAR EXTENSION: ETHICAL, EPISTEMOLOGICAL AND POLITICAL PERSPECTIVE

Abstract

One of the characteristics of the Brazilian academy is its support tripod: teaching, research and extension. It is true that historically research and, especially, extension have not received due attention. In recent years, this was changing from a public policy aimed at strengthening research and extension with incentives and availability of scholarships for participants. The current moment, however, is a setback and a crisis, as the resources for projects and scholarships have decreased dramatically in the last five years and, more recently, it is becoming a kind of boycott of science and academia, mainly the sciences human and others that also carry out critical reflection and seek the transformation of the current order, which is historically structured in inequality and social injustice. However, the majority of the academy realized the potential and is used to developing teaching, research and extension in an interrelated way and, in partnership with social movements, is resisting and advancing in the development of extension.

Author Biographies

Volmir José Brutscher, Universidade de Pernambuco (UPE)

Possui graduação em Filosofia, pelo Instituto Superior de Filosofia Berthier e Universidade de Passo Fundo (1997), e em Pedagogia, pela Faculdade Geremário Dantas (2017), mestrado em Educação pela Universidade de Passo Fundo (2004) e doutorado em Educação pela Universidade Federal da Paraíba (2017). Tem experiência profissional na área de gestão da educação em saúde e na área de ensino superior. Na graduação, destacam se as disciplinas de Metodologia Científica, Estudos Filosóficos, Filosofia da Educação e Educação de Jovens e Adultos; na pósgraduação, Direitos Humanos e Cidadania e Gestão de Sistemas e Serviços de Saúde. Também tem experiência em Educação Popular, centralmente em controle social das políticas públicas, com ênfase em saúde.

Lucicléa Teixeira Lins, Universidade Federal da Paraíba - UFPB

Doutorado em Educação (2013), pelo Programa de Pós-graduação em Educação- PPGE/UFPB, com tese defendida sobre a autogestão em assentamentos rurais. Mestra em educação (2006) e especialista em direitos humanos (2003), pela mesma universidade. Possui graduação em história pela FFPG/ UPE (2000). Atualmente é professora da UFPB, campus III, Bananeiras - Pb, atuando nos cursos de pedagogia, agroecologia e ciências agrárias. Tem experiência na área de Educação, com ênfase em Educação Popular, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: movimentos sociais, educação do campo, direitos humanos e economia solidária.
