Abstract

Abstract: This paper is aimed at contributing to the characterisation of cognitive, semiotic, semantic and lexical features of fantasy literary discourse. We examine enunciative and discursive aspects of literary communication as well as the cognitive, semiotic and linguistic dimensions of the fantasy literary text. The study draws on a theoretical framework which comprises lexical and semiotic studies, and fictional semantics of possible worlds for understanding the semiosis of fantasy literature. The study foregrounds characterising aspects of the fantasy literary universe of discourse including creative imagination; serialisation as a discursive production mode; semantic-conceptual heterogeneity of the fantasy text; interdiscursivity and intertextuality with ethnoliterary discourses; and the semantic-conceptual specificity of lexical units used in this universe of discourse.
