elements of the daily life of prostitutes in Crato-CE (1940-1950)

This work aimed to analyze the forms of violence in the daily lives of red light workers and prostitutes in the city of Crato, Cariri Cearense region in the 1940s-1950s. To do so, we used procedural sources from the Cariri-CEDOCC Documentation Center. The intention was to analyze, through judicial processes, both how the judiciary operated in relation to these women and how the violence they suffered or even practiced unfolded within the judiciary, also allowing everyday problems to be raised beyond those visible in the records. Another element that permeates this analysis is the stigma that the prostitute woman carried in some situations in her daily life and, to this end, we approach the ideas formulated by Goffman regarding the concept of stigma. The universe of prostitution/prostitution was and is permeated by countless questions and in this work we raised some that we consider pertinent. It is worth clarifying that the issue of honor is also a central factor in the cases analyzed and problematized here.
