THE REPRESENTATION OF SOCIAL INVISIBILITY IN THE ILLUSTRATIONS OF OS INVISÍVEIS, BY TINO FREITAS

Abstract

This work presents a reading of the artistic construction and the role of illustration in different editions of the work Os invisíveis (2013; 2021) by the writer Tino Freitas, addressing the relationship between the aforementioned children's narrative and the work of its visual creators, the visual artists Renato Moriconi and Odilon Moraes, identifying differences in approach and common elements in the representation of social invisibility in the plot and pointing to the importance of illustration for the construction of the narrative in its various editions and in the scope of children's literature in general. In order to base our study, we mainly took as a basis the considerations proposed by Linden (2011), Fittipaldi (2008) and Camargo (1995; 1999), both with regard to illustration and the functions they perform in a composition aimed at children, and with regard to the work of visual artists and the paths they chose to address social invisibility in the composition. As a result, we verified that the researched narrative favors the contact of the child reader with the illustrations, which not only expand the meanings of the verbal text, adding new and diverse ways of interpretation related to the raised social discussion, but also stimulate and emphasize imagination, creativity and aesthetic delight.
