UPDATES TO THE GRAPHIC DESIGN OF O DONO DOS PÉS (1996; 2013), BY JUSSARA KOURY(H)

Abstract

Graphic designs for youth literature have been increasingly elaborated by the publishing chain, which requires a closer look from critics and researchers. Considering this issue, this objective study carried out an analysis and description of the elements that make up the graphic design of the youth novel O dono dos pés (1996), by Jussara Koury, as well as its most recent update in 2013. In View of this, covers, back covers, paratexts and other compositional elements are addressed. To this end, a qualitative investigation of a bibliographic nature was carried out, in which the procedures were analytical-descriptive. In addition, considerations of the author of the work were brought to the fore, reported in an episodic interview. The theoretical basis is anchored in scholars who discuss editorial and graphic issues, such as Camargo (1995), Moraes (2008) and Genette (2009); and also authors who focus on youth literature, such as Ceccantini (2021), and the relationship between the publishing market and titles that address diseases, based on Novaes (2021), since the novel addresses HIV/aids. As result, the update of the narrative's graphic design is intentional, ensuring a new circulation of the book – whether by the public or in bookstores and websites –, but that it also comes up against issues related to editorial inaccuracies.
