CLUES TO THE AWAKENING OF A RACIALISED EPISTEMOLOGY

The central aim of this essay is to lay some foundations for paving the way towards an explicitly Racialised Epistemology. I develop in this essay the argument according to which Universalism (European) has been, and continues to be, a kind of veiled and pompous name to conceal the privileges of the enunciation of Whiteness. Starting from the premise that this type of Universalism is in the process of collapsing, due to the explosion of an ancestral black and indigenous outcry that has been repressed for centuries, I establish, on the one hand, a dialogue with supposedly critical philosophical approaches (Richard Rorty, Alain Badiou and Ernesto Laclau), coined here by me as the epistemology of ‘mirror without steel’, precisely because they do not openly Racialize their own perspectives; on the other hand, a provocation to the epistemology that I see as arrogantly ‘humble’ (from the ‘new’ Philosophy of Science to the Science Studies), since it historicises Science at the same time as it continues to see it as special or superior, in face of other forms of knowledge. Finally, and most importantly, I invite us to move towards a Racialised Epistemology, inspired by, but not limited to the idea of breaking the Racial Contract and the Pact of Whiteness formulated by Charles Mills and Cida Bento, respectively.
