INDIGENOUS LITERATURE FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE: STORIES TO COME HOME

Abstract

In this article we present a reflection on indigenous literature that has been published in contemporary times, based on the analysis of elements of the graphic-editorial and literary projects of the book Nós, an anthology of indigenous literature, which brings together ten representative narratives of ten indigenous peoples different stories retold by indigenous writers. It was organized and illustrated by Mauricio Negro, features paratext on the fourth cover by Daniel Munduruku and was awarded by the National Children's and Youth Book Foundation (FNLIJ), in the retelling category in 2020 (production 2019). Therefore, we will also address a brief discussion about the retelling genre and indigenous authorship. As a theoretical foundation, we discussed with Graça Graúna, about indigenous literature, and with Eduardo Viveiros de Castro, about Amerindian perspective. One can see in the work an alignment between graphic-editorial project and literary project, which have as important characteristics the expression of resistance and cultural reaffirmation, of valuing the experience and wisdom of indigenous peoples in Brazil. A problematization of an individualist perspective, of supremacy, stands out, placing at the center the relationships of interdependence between everything that is living, based on the awareness of impermanence, the constancy of the mutability of everything that exists in the world.
