TOURING THE WORLD OF MUNDIM

AN ANALYSIS OF THE ILLUSTRATED BOOK BY LILIA DINIZ

Abstract

 Literature as a space for creation and aesthetic appreciation gains deeper aspects when it focuses on the experiences and characters of the universe of children and young people. Horizons and perspectives gain new contours when the child is the central character of the narrative, sizing events and confronting the reader's expectations. In this sense, this article proposes the analysis of the poetry of cordel in o Mundo de Mundim (2016), by the poet Lília Diniz, in addition to reflecting on the readings made by the protagonist of cordel about the sertão and social roles in this context. Lília Diniz's work narrates the journey of the title character in his quest to discover the world through knowledge, despite being illiterate and prevented by an oppressive social context, materialized by the figure of the colonel on the farm where Mudim and his family work. The method used is bibliographic and the theoretical foundation focuses on the history and development of children's literature, illustrated children's books, paradidactics and regionality. With these provisions in mind, from the studies carried out it is possible to understand the hinterland in its social and historical dimension based on Mudim's dreams, desires and frustrations. In view of the results of this article, it is clear that Mundo de Mundim (2016) brings contrasts and deep reflections on the backlands presented in the work and on the child's narrative perception from this perspective.
