This article aims to discuss the absence of Latin American philosophers in philosophy textbooks. Despite the prolific philosophical production in Latin America, especially in Hispanic America, it is clear that there is no content related to Latin American thinkers in the teaching of philosophy in basic education in Brazil. It seems that this gap is directly linked to the way in which philosophy was introduced in Brazil. From the colonial period, through the Imperial and Republican periods, our philosophers have only dealt with the thought of the philosophical schools of Europe. This phenomenon, which seems to be a characteristic of Brazilian philosophy when compared to the philosophy produced by our neighbors, would partly explain this silence about Latin American philosophy in textbooks. Until the 1980s, there was some resistance in philosophy academies in Brazil against Latin American philosophy. This was reflected in basic education in such a way that to this day we do not find the thought of a single Latin American philosopher in textbooks.
