A tradução como mediação intercultural: versões intersemióticas da poesia de Baudelaire

Abstract

This article aims to propose a reflection on translation regarding its potential as an intercultural mediator. Taking as the object of analysis the poetic work of Charles Baudelaire, it seeks to discuss, based on different versions in which his poetry unfolds (Benjamin, 2010) or is reassembled (Cardozo, 2021), its power to mediate between different cultures. After a brief commentary on Baudelaire's translations into Portuguese, I will focus my analysis on the manga As flores do mal (Oshimi, 2010) and the comic Mademoiselle Baudelaire (Yslaire, 2021), also commenting briefly on the musical work Fabulações baudelairianas: récita chamberística de botequim (Marcondes, Iumatti, Faleiros, 2024). It is through these intermedial versions, stimulated by Baudelairean poetry, that a facet of translation is revealed as a condition of a relationship (Cardozo, 2012, 2014, 2021; Berman, 1995), or of a mediation, between different social groups of the “same” community. This refers to the mediation between different expressions of culture (Hall, 2016) in the arts, such as the so-called geek culture. Translation (lato sensu) would represent a two-way passage (Seligmann-Silva, 2018) between the original and the translated, between languages ​​that are not restricted/limited only by their linguistic differences (verbal, non-verbal, imagery, musical, etc.) to unfold the work, but that establish the very condition of a fruitful intercultural mediation (resulting in countless readings), within a community understood as culturally heterogeneous.
