Abstract

This article will, through an analysis of the New Haven Black Panther case, which occurred in Connecticut, United States; question how the juror’s profile who participate in the jury's trial can influence on the jury's decision. This happen, mainly, due a slave past, which the social institutions are marked by the structural racism and in many cases, those who are going to judge have different social, economic and racial background in comparison of those who will be judged; a fact that can affect their perceptions and directly influencing their final decision. Therefore, the article aims to analyze this relationship, based on data obtained in Brazil, making a brief comparison of the jury court in both countries and also, study how the New Haven Black Panther case was essential as a way to question the impartiality of jurors. As a general objective, aims to analyze the influence of the jury based on the profile of its jurors. Specific objectives include examining data from the Brazilian reality regarding juror profiles, determining whether racial and social categories have an impact on this issue, and examining how the New Haven Black Panther case can contribute to the analysis and understanding of this topic. The methodology used was bibliographical research, with a deductive approach.
