Maristela Oliveira de Andrade is a retired university professor, graduated in psychology from the Catholic University of Pernambuco (1978). She has a postgraduate degree in cultural anthropology (UFPE) (1984). PhD in Latin American Études/Anthroposociologie des Religions from the Université de Paris III (Sorbonne-Nouvelle) (1983). Her studies present interfaces with the themes of territory, traditional populations, development and environment, as well as in the field of religion and religiosities, contemporary religious movements. Author of the books: 500 Years of Catholicism & Syncretism in Brazil (2002); Northeastern Culture and Tradition: Essays on Cultural and Intellectual History (2000); Annotations on the ethnographic work of Câmara Cascudo (1999), among others. Among the books organized, we highlight Roger Bastide and Brazil (2004) and the most recent Relations between universities and communities: the gift circuit and the sustainability of territories (2021). She received two awards: in 1998, the Manoel Ferreira Nobre Award by the Historical and Geographic Institute of Rio Grande do Norte; and in 1997, She received an Honorable Mention in the area of human sciences in the Institutional Program of Scientific Initiation Scholarships – PIBIC, at the Federal University of Paraíba. She retired from teaching in 2016. She created the Interdisciplinary Research Group on Culture, Society and Environment (2012), of which she is deputy coordinator. The interview was conducted based on a semi-structured script, and took place remotely, via video conferencing platform Zoom.us, on September 29, 2023.
