Abstract

The present article derives from a practical-philosophical proposal for teaching Philosophy in high school, based on the theme of bioethics and the concept of the ethics of responsibility by the philosopher Hans Jonas. The complete proposal is part of a dissertation entitled Bioethics in School: Teaching Philosophy from Hans Jonas's Ethics of Responsibility (Professional Master's Program). The ethics of responsibility is the main axis of this work, considering the critique of technique, another concept highlighted in our work. However, it is necessary to note that Jonas does not constantly oppose technique and its use; that is, he is not against technique but observes how it has been used over time by humans. Bioethics, which also appears throughout the text, is mainly used in the context of the use of technique. In contemporary times, philosophy is redefined by discussing the benefits and harms of human interaction with nature, especially considering the environmental damage caused by this relationship. Philosophy, by addressing environmental and climatic issues, encourages students to criticize the current societal model and reflect on sustainability. It is hoped that students can become aware of the ethical and social responsibility concerning human actions. Therefore, philosophy in high school, inspired by Jonas's ethics of responsibility, can promote critical and reflective education, leading students to understand and face the ethical and environmental challenges of the contemporary world.
