The teaching of philosophy in Youth and Adult Education – YAE faces significant challenges, such as the diversity of age groups, varying levels of learning, and life trajectories marked by an invisibility that distances young adult and adult students from the classroom. At the same time, it is possible to glimpse perspectives for the construction of emancipatory thinking. In this direction, the general objective of this article is to understand the main challenges faced in the teaching of Philosophy within Youth and Adult Education, as well as perspectives for an emancipatory path. The methodology used was a literature review. One of the main challenges is addressing the dispute between the market-oriented view and the position of rights-bearing individuals within the school system itself. Philosophy teaching, when practiced as a philosophical activity in a contextualized way, can become an emancipatory tool in the construction of conceptual thought. For this, teaching that engages in dialogue with plural experiences offers bridges between the historicity of Philosophy and the realities of adult education classes. Raising awareness of the student's experience, welcoming them and involving them in classes, in the sense of questioning and emancipatory thinking, becomes a perspective for the teaching of philosophy in adult education (EJA). Therefore, it is essential to invest in specific continuing education for teachers, adapt teaching materials to diverse realities, and value this subject within school curricula for social inclusion and the emancipatory exercise as a citizen and a subject of rights and transformative knowledge.
