EDUCATION AS THE FOUNDATION FOR THE REALIZATION OF THE NOBLE LIE ADVOCATED BY SOCRATES IN PLATO’S REPUBLIC
Keywords:
Politeia, Plato, Lie without nobility, Noble lie, EducationAbstract
Plato criticizes the poets, nobly Homer and Hesiod, on the narratives of gods performing defiant acts against each other and, also with mortals, as well as in relation to kings and heroes; elements that would characterize, according to Plato, a "lie without nobility". Therefore, children could not be taught in Platonic Politeia, for they would corrupt, in the course of their education, the souls of future citizens, and the possible guardians of the city. Plato's brothers, Glaucon and Adimanto, and Socrates, come to the conclusion that the current generation of Athenian citizens does not accept the ideas contained in the three waves, highlighting: the woman being a guardian, and the philosopher being chosen as the guardian of the city. For this to happen, it will be necessary for education to use a "noble lie", that is, that each young person performs from the function that, in fact, had the aptitude, only one task.
