This study sought to understand the perceptions of students and teachers in relation to socio-emotional development in the Brazilian professional technical training context. The study is qualitative-quantitative, descriptive and exploratory. Data collection included documentary and bibliographic analysis on Brazilian public policies relevant to technical and professional training. Furthermore, a Lickert scale questionnaire was applied to 155 students and a semi-structured interview was carried out with 22 teachers from a technical education institution in a municipality located in the metropolitan region of Vale do Paraíba and the North Coast of São Paulo. The Surveymonkey application was used to collect data from the questionnaires and the IRaMuTeQ software was used to support the organization and categorization of interview data. The results indicate the need for an educational environment that promotes the integral development of students enrolled in technical and professional training, highlighting the importance of socio-emotional skills in facing professional and personal challenges. The conclusions derived from this research offer significant contributions to understanding the role of these skills in the Brazilian and Latin American educational scenario.
