EXTERIORITY AS A FUNDAMENTAL CATEGORY IN ENRIQUE DUSSEL'S PHILOSOPHY OF LIBERATION

This article analyzes the oppression that has weighed upon Latin America since the invasion of its territory starting from the year 1492, a period during which Enrique Dussel considers the process of Europe's affirmation as the center of the world to have begun. The research aims to answer the following question: considering that Dussel's philosophical project is a philosophizing from the other, in what sense does the main category of his thought, exteriority, offer consistent arguments for understanding the condition of the Latin American oppressed in the 21st century? It starts from the hypothesis that Dussel's philosophy presents a new conception of otherness, which is more suitable for understanding the emancipation of the subject of the “Pátria Grande (Great Homeland)”, because it is situated in the concrete reality of the peoples of this region. The theoretical framework articulates the categories of the oppressed and exteriority, present in the works 1492: The Concealment of the Other and Philosophy of Liberation in Latin America. This is bibliographical research, with a qualitative phenomenological approach, which aims to understand the texts studied. The results achieved demonstrate that the philosophy of liberation proposed by the Argentine philosopher offers an original contribution to the history of philosophy because it proposes, for the Latin American subject, to philosophize based on their social reality.
