This thematic dossier brings together studies that critically examine the relationship between curriculum integration and democratic schools in light of recent transformations in curriculum policies. Adopting a critical perspective, the contributions explore disputes surrounding the democratization of knowledge, curriculum justice, and holistic education across different national and international contexts. The articles address topics such as student participation, teaching, upper secondary education, vocational education, ethnic-racial relations, and curriculum territorialization. Collectively, they highlight the tensions between democratic educational projects and processes of standardization, market-oriented reforms, and neoliberal rationality. The dossier reaffirms the curriculum as a political and epistemological arena committed to equity and the right to meaningful learning for all, while defending curriculum integration as a key dimension of democratic schools.
