Writing a journal brings together the benefits of writing with those that stem from writing about events and about oneself, always from a personal perspective. Journals require first-person writing in which the writer constructs a multidimensional narrative that accommodates and blends objective and subjective elements, descriptive and emotional aspects, situational and imaginative components; present elements alongside others that are remembered or prospective; elements related to academic competencies together with others more closely tied to the writer’s personal sphere. All of this is what makes journaling a high-impact tool in academic life and in the personal and professional development of both teachers and students.
